About Southport

The Home is located in Birkdale, the focus of the world famous Royal Birkdale Golf Course. Just 2 miles away is the seaside resort of Southport, the jewel of England's North West coast. The town boasts a truly continental flavour with tree-lined boulevards, pavement cafés and a superb range of shops and restaurants. Lord Street features glass canopied shops, whilst the stunning Wayfarers Arcade is home to a superb range of specialist shops, high street names and department stores. Walk through the Cambridge Arcade and Cambridge Walks to discover an even greater selection of shops on Chapel Street and in Marble Place. A few minutes away from Southport's town centre is Churchtown. This beautiful medieval village, mentioned in the Doomsday Book, features white-washed thatched cottages and the 18th century Cuthbert's Church.

Southport has a timeless charm that has captivated generations of visitors, many of whom decide to move or retire here. A gentle stroll along the promenade or through the gardens, may reveal a free afternoon concert in the bandstand, or afternoon tea in one of the many pavement cafés are just a few of the pleasures to be enjoyed. The Marine Way Bridge opened in May 2004 is now the landmark on the promenade. Originally a busy fishing centre, the town's ancient maritime is nowhere to be seen, except in one local museum in the beautiful and enchanting Botanic Gardens.
